I completed the first draft of Blue Crime at the end of 2021. It’s required a lot of rewriting, but I don’t think Blue Song readers will be disappointed! Expected publication … maybe summer 2024.
For now, I’ll leave you with a teaser, a brief scene wherein Allie (protagonist from Blue Song) meets Carlos’s attorney-turned-investigator, David. This was done as part of an assignment for a writing class I’m taking through MasterClass. This may, or may not, end up in the book, but in case you’ve missed Allie’s (often snarky) voice, here you go…
Snippet from BLUE CRIME (2nd of The Blue Series)
When David walked into the restaurant, I turned to Carlos and raised my eyebrows. Carlos murmured something that sounded like cool it but the place was so damn noisy he could have been telling me to stop drooling. The fact is, David Berenson was extremely nice to look at. He walked in wearing a tailored black suit, no tie, and a pale pink shirt. Something turns me on about men in pink. While Carlos’s looks had a rugged vibe, David’s were more Sean Connery meets David Beckham. A firm jaw, close-cropped mustache, and trimmed beard accentuated a pair of oh-la-la sexy lips.
My lust died the minute he opened his mouth. Carlos had warned me about David’s obvious lack of social skills but said nothing about the man’s lisp. In my defense, I don’t lack compassion for people with speech disorders. Hell, in the sixth grade, I befriended Margaret Pickering, a homely kid who stuttered horrifically and picked her nose when she thought no one was looking. But this was different. David sprayed. I mean, his mouth performed like a personal mister. At least he didn’t always look at me when he spoke. His face moved constantly, so fifty percent of the time I felt safe. Regardless, minutes after he sat down, I casually scooted my chair a good six inches from the table.
